Kate has been practising since 1997 in Melbourne. She has always been interested in massage as a compliment to mainstream western medicine, and after a few years of working in the health and fitness industry moved into the Kew Junction Medical Centre, with referrals from local GPs and psychologists.
In 2001-2004 Kate moved her practise to Erin Street, Richmond in order to provide “in-house” massage to patients in the Epworth Hospital. Most of the calls from the hospital were from the Drug & Alcohol Unit, with some calls from the Oncology and Neurology wards. Kate developed an interest in chronic disease and chronic pain management, working with the psychologist at the Elim Pain Management Centre in Richmond, and later at the Melbourne Clinic.
She completed OM4 in 2010, passionate about Oncology Massage and eager to apply the knowledge and skills.
Currently Kate is working 2 days per week in Melbourne. Having recently moved to live in Hepburn Springs, she has developed a second practise in the Daylesford Medical Centre, where she is included in the Medical “Team Care” approach to chronic illness. She is accredited with St John of God Hospital in Ballarat.
Kate is passionate about the mandatory inclusion of massage in the management of cancer and other diseases, and she and is our newly appointed facilitator in Victoria.

In 2007 Hayley was contracted to ACT Palliative Care and for the past 5 years has worked at the Canberra Hospice and with patients on the home-based palliative care program. Hayley has a passion for working with palliative care and oncology patients and brings great skills, empathy and understanding to her patients and their varied illnesses. Hayley also works with the carers’ of patients and believes that massage is equally important and valuable to them, as they undertake their difficult role in caring for their loved one.
Hayley’s desire for knowledge and to provide excellence in her work led her to undertake post-graduate studies in Oncology Massage Training, completing all 4 Oncology Massage Modules as well as Complex Lymphatic Therapies. Hayley feels privileged to work in her specialised area, and is thrilled that massage therapy is so successful in helping to ease people’s pain and symptoms, during illness. Due to Hayley’s desire to spread knowledge and to have more skilled therapists in this area - she is currently an Oncology Massage Teacher-in-Training. This led to Lyn working for the Anglican Counselling Service as a Girls Court Worker where she worked to resolve practical issues as well as counselling girls whom, for various reasons, were incarcerated.
Lyn’s next career phase, which lasted twenty-one years, was with the Department of Community Services as a District Officer and a District Manager.
After training in Gestalt counselling (Sydney Gestalt Centre) conflict resolution (Macquarie University) and communications (Western Sydney University) she commenced her own counselling practice. 15 years ago Lyn was diagnosed with Non Hodgkin Lymphoma of the bone marrow and was given 5 –10 years to live.
Soon after dealing with the challenges of medical treatment and a substantial life style change Lyn joined the Petrea King residential programmes at the Quest for Life Centre (QFL) as a counsellor.
Eleanor, who met Lyn soon after she joined the facilitation team, recognised the impact Lyn’s extensive counselling skills and enthusiasm had on the participants of the QFL programs and members of the team. Lyn remained a valued member of the QFL facilitation team for nine years.
Lyn’s personal and professional experience enables her to have an understanding of the joys and challenges of working with folk experiencing cancer or cancer treatment.

(time to be negotiated via email addresss clem.barnes@bigpond.com)
$50 per hour per session (if therapists call her, she can keep fees down)

Clemencia is offering her services to support oncology massage therapists around Australia.
Clemencia began her career as a Counsellor in the Education Department in Melbourne after completing her University studies comprising a B.A., (Psychology/Behavioural Studies) B.S.W., (Theraupeautic Interventions) Dip.Ed.,Dip.Community Development.
When she moved to Tasmania she commenced work as a Clinical Family Therapist and Jungian Psychotherapist working in the Child and AdolescentPsychiatric Unit. In 1980 she commenced private practice in Tasmania working with individuals, couples and workshop groups.
She has worked with groups as various as Family Court Judge and practitioners, general practitioners, groups of teachers, lawyers, nurses, teachers, foster parents, Child and Family Workers, with ministers from various denomination and members of the Antartic Division. She has also worked in private enterprise.
While her passion has been in working with the whole family she early discovered that an understanding of the powerful influence from the ‘promptings’ of ‘the inner family’ repeating old messages in the mind of the individual had a huge impact on ‘stuck’ points in their lives. Most of us declare we will never be like our mother/father only to find how very like them we have often become!
Her practice now focuses on both the significance of an understanding of the Spirit within individuals when treatment of major physical and emotional illness is required and in an understanding that it is from within the mind of the individual that much trauma has it’s genesis.
“We can become what we think.”
Clemencia is looking forward to participating in the session of those working in the Oncology Massage Program.
